Eighty metres of knitted history come to Mossley Mill

The Longest Yarn exhibition is scheduled to open at Museum at the Mill on Monday, bringing together volunteer-made scenes of the Normandy campaign.

An 80-metre textile installation depicting the Normandy campaign is scheduled to open at Museum at the Mill in Newtownabbey on Monday 2 November.

The council says The Longest Day, the debut project of The Longest Yarn, was created by volunteers using knitting and crochet to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day in 2024.

The exhibition is scheduled to remain at Mossley Mill until 19 March 2027.

The listing gives opening hours of 10am–5pm, with selected Saturday openings from 10am–2pm. The first Saturday listed is 7 November.

The March Spinning Yarns event is separately ticketed. Ordinary exhibition admission charges are unconfirmed in the material checked; visitors should consult the organiser’s listing before travelling.
