A Bill is a proposal: how to check what Stormont has actually passed

Use the Assembly's Bill page to distinguish proposed changes, scrutiny and Royal Assent.

The Northern Ireland Assembly publishes each Bill's text and supporting documents as it moves through the legislative process. A headline announcing a Bill therefore needs a status check before readers are told that the proposal is already law.

The official current-mandate listing links to explanatory and financial memoranda, amendment documents and amended versions. Its stage column shows whether a Bill is being scrutinised, awaiting another stage or has received Royal Assent.

For any individual proposal, check the linked Bill page and the date attached to the stage information. The overview read on 2 November states that its proceedings table is current to 14 October 2026; it must not be presented as a live tracker of everything that happened today.
