Queen’s Quay replacement project advances to design and assessment

The Derry proposal has an initial £36m–£45m estimate; further funding, approvals and statutory processes remain required.

Plans to replace Queen’s Quay in Derry can move into design, environmental assessment, planning and business-case work after Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins approved establishment of the project.

The Department for Infrastructure’s announcement on Monday 2 November puts the potential value at £36 million to £45 million. That is an initial feasibility estimate, subject to further design and approvals.

The work will be developed alongside the Central Riverfront Project, which the department is progressing with Derry City and Strabane District Council through the City Deal programme. DfI says coordinating the projects should support connectivity, active travel, regeneration and flood resilience.

No procurement or construction commitment has been made. Future delivery remains dependent on funding, approvals and statutory processes; the announcement does not provide a construction start date.
