South West Acute Hospital fertility clinic restored, Western Trust says
The trust reports a seventh obstetrics and gynaecology consultant and a new paediatric consultant at the Enniskillen hospital.
A fertility clinic at South West Acute Hospital has been re-established after several years without the service, according to a Western Trust announcement on 3 November.
The trust says Dr Aine McNally restarted the clinic after taking up a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist post. Her appointment brings that consultant team to seven, compared with its previous commissioned establishment of six.
Dr Duana Cook has also joined as a consultant general paediatrician. Originally from Omagh, she returned after training and working in England. Her role covers newborns and children through to age 16.
The appointments affect services for Fermanagh and the wider western area. The trust says additional staffing and theatre capacity should improve access, but its announcement does not provide measured changes in waiting times.
No fertility referral criteria, clinic timetable or appointment-booking instructions are given in the release. It does not establish when each clinician started.
