Drivers urged to slow down as Road Worker Safety Week begins
The Infrastructure Department and PSNI are asking motorists to obey temporary lights, speed limits and signs around roadworks.
Road Worker Safety Week began on Monday 2 November with a joint appeal from the Department for Infrastructure and PSNI for drivers to slow down near roadworks.
The department says road and footpath workers face moving traffic and have also experienced verbal or physical attacks while doing their jobs.
PSNI says temporary speed limits and traffic lights at roadworks are legally enforceable. Ignoring them can bring a minimum £60 fine and three penalty points.
Drivers are being asked to allow extra time, obey temporary signals and signs, and be patient around work sites.
